Kuromoji Cell Water (by Ei-Chi)

$0.00
sold out

Herbal Offering by Ei-Chi
(Created by Chie Iwasaki, a dear friend and fellow folk herbalist of the Mt. Daisen region)

*This offering is only available during the warmer months, as the water can freeze and break in transit during winter

30ml

Kuromoji (Lindera umbellata), also known as Japanese spice bush, is an aromatic tree native to Japan.

Revered as the “tree that heals fatigue,” Kuromoji is a traditional herb with a refreshing, soothing fragrance. Belonging to the Lauraceae family, this fragrant wood (kōboku) has been cherished by mountain communities for its calming qualities since ancient times.

The Kuromoji used in this extract is hand-harvested from the lush forests of Oku-Daisen in Tottori. The harvest is carried out with the intention to steward the land. Community members gather in a small cabin, sitting in a circle to carefully prepare the leaves and branches together.

The plant material is then placed in a specialized low-temperature vacuum system that extracts the natural plant waters and aromatic compounds without adding any water. *

The result is this Kuromoji Cellular Water: a 100% pure plant extract made solely from the natural waters and essential oils contained within the tree’s leaves and branches.

This water can be used as a facial mist, energy clearing spray, sublingually, as an eye drop, or to flavor foods and drinks.

The currently available cellular water is made from Kuromoji harvested during the full moon of July 2025.

Best before: July 2026

Note: Although the extract is filtered after extraction, sediment or particles derived from natural components may sometimes settle or float. This does not affect the quality.

*Typically, hydrosols and essential oils are produced by heating plants above 100°C, then rapidly cooling the steam to separate the oils from the distilled water. In contrast, Kuromoji Cellular Water is extracted under vacuum at a low temperature of just 35°C, with no added water. This results in water with highly active molecules, remarkably low surface tension, and a high concentration of naturally occurring volatile essential oils.

Tried pickling Ooray plums into Umeboshi while in Australia a few years ago.
Tasted very.... umeboshi-esque✨🍈

何年か前にオーストラリアで、ネイティブフルーツの「ウーレイプラム」を使って漬けてみた梅干し。このプラムは完熟したら紫色になって、紫蘇なしでも真っ赤に仕上がった。

If you want to make nocino, don't forget to pick those unripe green walnuts! It's juuuust about that time. You want to go for them while they are still soft on the inside. This Italian liqueur can be sipped on as a digestive or a splash
